Richard P. Holmstrom has practiced almost exclusively in the area of criminal defense in the state and federal courts since 1973. He has tried over 130 cases to jury verdict and represented thousands of citizens accused of criminal activity during that time.
Mr. Holmstrom has successfully defended clients in all areas of criminal litigation, including State v. Heid (Minnesota's first acquittal in a bifurcated trial involving a mental illness defense); State v. Barry Hanson (acquittal of murder charges); U.S. v. Rutchasky (federal court acquittal on charges of interstate transportation of stolen construction equipment); State v. Guthrie (acquittal on attempted first degree murder charges); and State v. Novak (not guilty verdict in the "UMD hockey rape case").
Recently, his work as defense counsel in the State v. Wehmanen murder case was profiled for a national television audience on the Court TV show Forensic Files. His work has also resulted in his inclusion in several Who's Who publications, and he has been a lecturer on criminal law subjects for numerous continuing legal education seminars.
